Create and reuse a template

Save a document layout and signer roles for work you repeat.

Choose a source

Open Templates and choose New template. Upload a PDF or Word .docx file, start from a standard form, or write a Markdown template. You can also import from Google Docs and Drive.

A standard form gives you a starting copy in your workspace. Check its title and revision before using it for a new document.

Define signer roles

Name the roles the document needs, such as Client and Organizer. Roles describe the people involved; you enter their names and email addresses when creating a document from the template.

Review the fields

Check the converted or uploaded PDF and assign each field to a role. Review imported form fields, required values and signing areas. Check that the layout and assignments are correct before using the template.

For Markdown, edit the source and review it with example values. Example values help you inspect the document before entering the values for a specific use.

Create a document

Open the template and choose the document-creation action. Enter the document values and assign people to the signer roles. Check the resulting document before sending it for signing.

Keep reusable sources separate from completed work

Update the template for future uses. Review existing documents on their own; changing the template does not rewrite a document you already created.

Creating a document and sending it for signing are separate steps. If you generate a PDF without a signing request, review and download that file through the generation flow.
